Technology That Improves Your Dog's Stays

Scanning a Dog's Barcode While Boarding in Chicago
Our Barcoding System Ensures Accuracy

We use a proprietary barcoding system when giving food, medication, treats, and grooming. This system helps us maintain safety, consistency, and accountability — giving you peace of mind that your pet is always in good hands.

Other facilities use paper, outdated software, marker boards, or rely on employees to follow your instructions and to identify which dog is which. This can easily lead to risks such as your dog getting someone else's food or medicine, or even the staff bringing you the wrong dog at checkout. The issue is magnified when two dogs look alike, which is a common occurrence at all pet businesses.

Puppy Socials

 Watch Video (1:13):
Overview of Puppy Socials

If you have a puppy, we strongly encourage you to participate in some socials before you board with us. These help become well-socialized and more acclimated to group play, an integral part of our boarding experience.

Puppy socials are far better than dog parks for introducing your puppy to play. Our socials are run by trainers, all of the puppies must be vaccinated, the room is very clean, the weather doesn't matter, and we infuse fun games and exercises along with the play time.

We offer three types of puppy socials:
  • Confidence Builder: For puppies who are on the shy side, still trying to get comfortable with playing with others. They must be between 10 weeks and 5.5 months old, and 35 pounds or less.
  • Tiny Tots: For puppies who are 15 pounds and under, who are between 10 weeks and 5.5 months old, and whose play style is not overbearing with the other puppies.
  • Whippersnappers: For playful puppies who are between 15 and 35 pounds, and who are between 10 weeks and 5.5 months old. The puppies in this social should be comfortable playing with others, even those who may be larger.

Prices

We strive to be the best dog care provider in the area and believe that you get what you pay for. If you take a tour, we are confident you'll immediately see and feel the difference.

When comparing prices with other dog boarding facilities, it's important to compare apples and apples. Some may appear cheaper at first, but that could be for smaller suites or with hidden add-on fees. Our pricing is consistent regardless of suite size, and includes many hours of playtime every day.

Other facilities may limit your dog’s playtime or have restricted pickup hours. At Tucker Pup’s, dogs enjoy all-day play, scheduled naps, and we’re open for pickup 365 days a year — early morning to night.

We encourage you to research carefully, visit each facility, and ask questions that matter most for your dog’s care.

Nightly Rate
Like a hotel, the nightly rate can fluctuate depending on the demand for the dates in question, such as for holidays.

Checkin date

Checkout date

An additional dog from the same household, staying in the same suite at night, is $10 less per night. We do not allow dogs from different households to sleep in the same boarding suite, for safety reasons.

Our nightly rates are driven by the demand for our boarding services. This is similar to other travel-related services such as car rentals, hotels, and flights.
Big Dog Status
When checking out from a boarding reservation, any customers who have boarded 75 nights or more in the prior 12 months will automatically receive $10 off per night. A "night" is per dog, so if you have boarded two dogs in the past, that would count as two nights.

Group Play
Cost: No additional charge

With this option, your dog would be in group play throughout the day, combined with breaks. It would then sleep in its individual boarding suite at night. Most dogs who board here use the group play option.
Solo Play
Please note that we are no longer accepting solo play reservations. The prices below are here if your dog was in group play, but needs to be converted into a solo for the remainder of the stay due to a reason such as being too reactive or aggravating a pre-existing injury.

Cost: $15 extra per night, per dog, additional to the base rate listed above when entering your dates.

With this option, dogs stay in their suite throughout the day and night, for reasons such as not being social or having recent surgery. The suites are spacious, sanitary, and safe, and you can bring your own chew toys (at your own risk). We take solo play dogs out four times throughout the day for potty breaks and individual play time, including throwing a ball. There is a higher fee because it is very labor-intensive for us to offer this option, due to the amount of time spent with each dog and the number of solo play dogs we are caring for. We are one of the few places in Chicago to offer a solo play option.
Major Holidays
During major holidays, we have two additional requirements:

Minimum Night Requirements:

Minimum-night stays are required on the following dates due to the heavy demand for certain nights on these holidays.

When checking out, if you haven't stayed for the minimum-night requirement, we would apply the difference to your invoice.

Memorial Day 2026
  • 3-night minimum if checking in on Thursday, May 21
  • 2-night minimum if checking in on Friday, May 22

July 4th 2026
  • 3-night minimum if checking in on Thursday, July 2
  • 2-night minimum if checking in on Friday, July 3

Labor Day 2026
  • 3-night minimum if checking in on Thursday, September 3
  • 2-night minimum if checking in on Friday, September 4

Thanksgiving 2026
  • 3-night minimum if checking in on Wednesday, November 25
  • 3-night minimum if checking in on Thursday, November 26
  • 2-night minimum if checking in on Friday, November 27

Christmas 2026
  • 3-night minimum if checking in on Wednesday, December 23
  • 2-night minimum if checking in on Thursday, December 24
  • 2-night minimum if checking in on Friday, December 25

Deposit (Major Holidays Only):

Deposit amount: $100 total, regardless of the number of dogs

We have a deposit requirement in order to help ensure that people don't hold a reservation then cancel at the last second, which would take a spot away from someone else who needs it.

Applies to the Following Dates:

Memorial Day 2026:
  • The deposit is required if your stay includes any nights from Wednesday, May 20 to Monday, May 25
  • The deposit is non-refundable after Wednesday, April 29

Fourth of July 2026:
  • The deposit is required if your stay includes any nights from Wednesday, July 1 to Sunday, July 5
  • The deposit is non-refundable after Wednesday, June 10

Labor Day 2026:
  • The deposit is required if your stay includes any nights from Wednesday, September 2 to Monday, September 7
  • The deposit is non-refundable after Wednesday, August 12

Thanksgiving 2026:
  • The deposit is required if your stay includes any nights from Wednesday, November 25 to Sunday, November 29
  • The deposit is non-refundable after Wednesday, November 4

Christmas 2026
  • The deposit is required if your stay includes any nights from Monday, December 21 to Sunday, December 27
  • The deposit is non-refundable after Monday, November 30

Guidelines:
  • You pay for the deposit when making your reservation. We cannot complete a reservation without receiving the deposit.
  • The deposit can be paid over the phone using a credit or debit card, or with any payment method in person
  • When you check out from your boarding reservation, the deposit amount will be deducted from your invoice. Therefore, the deposit has no impact on the cost of the boarding reservation.
  • If you cancel your reservation by the deadline, we will refund your deposit. After the deadline, the deposit is non-refundable.
  • You can still make a holiday reservation after the cancellation deadline, but the deposit would still be required and is non-refundable.

Post-Noon Checkout
Cost: $40 per dog if checking out after noon

The post-noon checkout fee applies because on the check-out day, picking up after noon means your dog would have received a half-day of care that wasn't included in the boarding price. This fee applies regardless of what time your dog arrives on his first day.

Post-Noon Checkin
Cost: $40 per dog if checking in after noon and your dog is scheduled for group play throughout its stay. Note that this is only applied on your checkin date, not per night.

The post-noon checkin fee applies because on the checkin date, all dogs must arrive before noon in order to go into play. If your dog arrives after noon, it would be considered a "solo play" for the day, where our staff must take it out regularly before going to sleep at night. This one-on-one care requires a lot of extra time and staff. All dogs must arrive by 4pm, which is for the well-being of your dog, because if you arrive really late in the day, it can be stressful for the dog to go right into a boarding suite for the night.
Health Warranty Program
Cost: $5 per boarding stay, regardless of number of dogs or nights. The maximum you would pay for this program is $50 in a 12-month period. Once you have hit the maximum, the fee is not charged until the amount paid in over the past 12 months drops below $50.

The Health Warranty Program reimburses you for up to $250 in veterinary bills after a boarding stay with us. Please note that the $5 fee covers the entire boarding stay - it is not charged per night. Therefore, even if your stay is for 2 weeks and you are boarding two dogs, the warranty fee would only be $5 total.

Click here  to learn more about our Health Warranty Program.

Frozen Peanut Butter Kong
Cost: $5 per dog per night (optional). You can choose the nights.

With this option, we can bring your dog(s) a frozen peanut butter Kong at bedtime. Dogs love to work at getting out the tasty peanut butter. We supply the Kong and dog-safe peanut butter.
Feeding
Cost: No charge for feeding.

We feed dogs at pre-determined meal times throughout each day, based on the schedule you give us (e.g., breakfast, lunch, dinner, overnight). Any leftover meals go into your dog's suite at night, unless you request otherwise. Please provide your own food, measured out to cover your dog's entire stay plus a few nights, just in case. Please do not bring a huge bag of dog food, but instead put the full amount in a smaller bag or container, ideally with your dog's name on it. Dogs who switch to a different food during boarding have a higher propensity to get diarrhea and won't have as pleasant a time in play. Thus, it's best if you stick to your own food - trust us on this one.

Medicine
Cost: We do not charge for administering medicine.

Please note that we do not give injectable medication due to liability reasons.

Taking your dog to the vet for vaccinations or pre-existing conditions
Cost: $75 plus cost of the veterinary visit.

This applies if we need to take your dog to the veterinarian for a pre-existing condition or vaccination updates. If your dog needs to go to the vet for a situation such as this, we strongly encourage you to have an emergency contact that you could call in this instance. If your dog needs to go to the veterinarian for vaccinations, we would likely go to one in our neighborhood where we have a strong relationship and would not need to wait in line. Please note that these policies exist because we do not have adequate staffing levels to be able to send someone away like this, which can be very time-consuming.

Going to the store to buy extra food
Cost: $25 plus the cost of the food

This applies if we must go to a store to buy extra food for your dog because you didn't pack enough. We charge this amount because we do not have extra staff members who can leave the premises to do this. In order to avoid this scenario, we strongly encourage you to portion out all of the food for your dog's stay, and to pack extra meals just in case you need to extend your stay. If you run out of food that we sell here, we would be happy to sell you a bag and there would be no additional fee besides the cost of the food itself. You could also have a friend bring over more food.

Exit Bath or Other Grooming
Cost: Depends on the size and breed of the dog, as well as which services you are requesting (e.g., bath, haircut, deshedding, nail clipping or grinding, teeth brushing, etc.). Click here for our grooming prices.

This applies if you request an exit bath or other grooming for your dog to have her looking and smelling great when you pick her up. We have multiple outstanding groomers, and provide professional grooming services seven days per week.

Requirements

The following requirements are in place for all dogs who come here for daycare or boarding with group play. This helps ensure the safety of all of our customers, their dogs, and our staff.
Proof of vaccinations, kept up-to-date
We must have documentation on file from your veterinarian showing that all required vaccinations are current. We'll remind you when they're due, and you can fax them to us at (312) 276-8588, e-mail them to us, or bring them in.

Puppies must have received all rounds of each required vaccination, and all vaccinations must be current, before being able to enter our facility. This is to help prevent illness with your puppy, as they have relatively weak immune systems for the first several months.

Required vaccinations:
  • Rabies if four months or older
  • Distemper and Parvo (DHLPP, DLPP, or something similar that includes "D" and "P")
  • Bordatella (also known as "kennel cough" or "canine cough")
  • Canine Influenza (the strain called "H3N2" at a minimum, although we recommend getting the "bivalent" option for maximum protection).

Please note: The first time your dog receives this vaccination, it comes in two rounds, typically three weeks apart. You can board with just the first round, as long as it was within the past three weeks. If your dog received the first round more than three weeks ago, and you haven't gotten the second round, you will need to start over with the first round before your dog can enter our facility.

Click here to learn more about this vaccination and why we require it.

  • You may substitute a veterinary certificate of adequate titer protection issued within the previous 12 months for the distemper and parvovirus vaccinations.

We may be able to waive certain vaccinations if your veterinarian supplies a written letter stating the medical reasons.
No contagious conditions
For the safety of our other customers, your dog must not exhibit contagious ailments such as the following:
  • Upper respiratory illness, including (but not limited to) canine cough or canine influenza
  • Stomach virus / vomiting
  • Giardia
  • Worms or parasites
  • CPV (mouth warts)
  • Fleas

Dogs with ailments such as these will require a note from your vet and/or a screening evaluation from our staff before being allowed back to the play areas. If a dog exhibits typical symptoms associated with these conditions (such as coughing), we would assume it
Spayed or neutered if seven months or older, if entering group play
Large play groups and "intact" dogs are not a good combination. Even if your puppy may not be aggressive, other dogs typically don't react well to intact dogs, which can lead to aggression and a fight. In order to minimize the chance of this happening, we do require spaying or neutering once a puppy reaches seven months old. This is standard practice in the dog daycare industry across the country and is for the safety of your dog, our staff, and our customers' dogs. It is also recommended by most leading veterinarians.
All dogs must check in by noon in order to enter group play on their checkin day
This is because the playgroups are well-established by noon, and some of the dogs can be tired. When a new dog enters the group at this point, it could easily lead to another dog become reactive, which could create an injury for your dog, another dog, or a staff member. Please note that we keep noon as a hard cutoff time - we cannot allow a dog into play who shows up at 12:10pm, for example, as people would expect that any time they arrive is close enough to noon.

Please note that we charge a $15 solo play charge on your checkin day if your dog arrives after noon. This is because we would need to pull staff from other duties in order to care for your dog during the afternoon. If this were the case, your dog would enter play the next morning as usual. We strongly recommend arriving before noon in order to avoid this scenario.
At least two months old
It's really best that dogs under two months old stay with their mother, so they learn basic skills and behaviors that they will take with them through life. Once they reach two months, they'll also be big enough to stand their ground in a play group.
All dogs in play must have a proper collar
  • Every dog in play must have a collar. This helps us separate them if necessary.
  • The collar must have a "quick release" feature, so it can be removed quickly if dogs get in a fight or one dog's jaw gets stuck on another collar
  • No prong collars are allowed in play, as they can injure another dog
  • No buckle-style collars are allowed, as they can take too long to remove
  • No choke chains or shock collars
  • Every dog in play must have an ID tag on its collar, with at least its name. This is because many dogs look alike, and we cannot take the risk that a dog would, for example, receive the wrong food or medicine. We make ID tags here, and every dog will receive one free tag. After that, any future tags cost $5 plus tax.
  • We strongly dissuade any "designer" collars (leather, for example), as they can become easily damaged during play. We are not responsible for damage done to any collar.

Quick Release Collar
We sell quick-release collars such as this, in various colors and sizes. They range from $8 to $13 depending on the size.

Buckle Collar
Buckle-style collars take too long to remove and are not allowed in play. These collars have a pin that fits through a hole, similar to a belt.
No medicine on your dog's skin or coat if entering group play
We cannot have dogs in play who have recently received any medicine that goes onto their skin or coat, as another dog could lick it. This could cause the other dog to feel sick, or even experience a chemical burn on its lips or tongue. If you need to give your dog medicine that is applied to its skin, it must be done so at least three days before coming here so it has time to absorb. If we notice medicine on a dog's fur or skin, we would need to rinse it off immediately or remove the dog from play.
No injuries, open wounds, sedatives, stitches, or bandages while in group play
We cannot have any dog in play with an injury, open wound, stitches, or bandages. Stitches or bandages would come off in no time. Injuries could easily worsen, and open wounds could easily get infected. All of these scenarios would be detrimental to your dog's health, and your vet would not be happy with us as professionals.
No harnesses, apparel, or muzzles while in group play
Other dogs pull on harnesses, jackets, and other apparel. This can cause damage to these items, and can cause the other dog to get its jaws caught up in them. Muzzles can cause other dogs to become reactive, which can cause your dog to become reactive. These situations can be very dangerous and could lead to an injury to a dog or staff member. We remove all such items in play.
Daily naps
All dogs who are boarding with us will receive at least one nap per day. This is because being in group play for too long can make many very overly tired and stressed. This could lead to them becoming reactive or snappy, which could lead to an injury to your dog, another dog, or a staff member. We have a very structured system to ensure that dogs are not left in naps for too long.
Rest days
We normally give a full day of rest on every third day to dogs who are boarding with us and participating in group play. This is to help avoid them becoming too tired and possibly reactive towards other dogs, which could lead to an injury to themselves, another dog, or a staff member. During a day of rest, they are taken out multiple times per day for shorter periods of time, to play with the handlers and other dogs who are also on their day of rest. We find that this approach gives them the best experience possible, because playing too much can be overtaxing for a dog's system.
Must be able to be in a boarding suite
We give naps to the dogs in our care, and from time to time may need to remove a dog from play for being overwhelmed, tired, or reactive. When this happens, the dog must go into a boarding suite. Therefore, we cannot have dogs in group play who can never go into a suite. We have a structured system to ensure they are not in a suite for too long. If a dog simply shouldn't go back into play, we would inform you, at which point you or your friend could come pick up your dog if you desire, or it could continue to stay with us but not be in group play.
Free trial day
We require a free trial day for all dogs coming here for boarding with group play, if he has never boarded with us before. This is for the safety and well-being of your dog, and the other dogs in our care. We want to give him the opportunity to get used to our environment and our staff before you leave for your trip, and to help ensure he is not overly stressed or reactive. At the end of the day, we'll tell you how your dog handled the experience, and you can feel free to call in during the day to see how everything is going. If your dog didn't do well, this would give you time to find another alternative. It also shows your dog that you're coming back for him, which can be very important for rescue or otherwise anxious dogs. We find that when a dog comes here for the free trial day, his experience is much more positive, and that is what matters most to us. If your dog was simply stressed, it's definitely possible that it could still board with us - it just may take another visit to become adjusted.

If you are not able to bring your dog for the trial day due to extenuating circumstances, we may be able to make an exception. Call us to discuss.
Dogs in play cannot be overly aggressive or rough
Identifying "aggressiveness" can be a fine line. We know it's normal for most dogs to show some signs of aggression in a group environment from time to time. For example, your dog might growl at another dog to communicate that he doesn't want his space to be invaded at the moment, and certainly growling is better than fighting. However, our staff will be ultimate judge of whether the behavior goes over the line, to the detriment of the other dogs. Incidents such as fighting, snapping, and biting will simply not be tolerated. Normally we will try to use a "three-strikes" rule, but depending on the severity of the incident, your dog might not be allowed to continue coming to visit us. Otherwise, we recognize that minor cuts or abrasions may occur from time to time due to wrestling and playing, and we will take every matter into consideration with fairness.
No play that is too excitable, involves excessive humping, or could otherwise cause fights
We cannot have dogs in play whose over-stimulated behavior can cause fights or an ongoing pattern of negative responses, even if the dog doesn't intend to be aggressive. For example, excessive humping, running into other dogs, or getting in other dogs' faces can cause negative reactions in other dogs. This could lead to a fight or aggression that could injure another dog, your dog, or a staff member. It can also cause our staff to spend too much time trying to correct one dog. Our employees are the sole judge of what is considered too much to handle. We do have break time, and do give dogs a chance to settle down, but have to make a decision if there is an ongoing pattern that is too difficult to safely manage.
Not aggressive towards humans
We cannot have dogs in our care who show a pattern of snapping at or trying to bite humans. This could cause a serious injury and we cannot put our staff in harm's way like this.
No females in heat
Lots of male dogs, plus one female in heat, all in a confined space. You get the picture.
No poop-eaters
As disgusting as it sounds, some dogs eat poop while in play because they either think it's fun, tastes good, or it may give them nutrients that their body craves and that they're not getting in their diet. This can be a major problem in a daycare environment because it can lead to a contagious illness called giardia (think: dog eats poop, then drinks out of community water bowl). If you are unfamiliar with giardia, trust us, you don't want to go through it! We obviously try to clean up poop and pee as quickly as possible, but some dogs swoop in very quickly and it can be challenging to stop them. If the staff indicates to you that your dog is a culprit, we ask that you take this very seriously and act accordingly because that we can't have dogs in daycare who do this. Typically it can be corrected through proper training and using the "leave it" command consistently. It could also require a change in food, or it could be due to a medical disorder that requires a vet visit and dietary supplements.
Signed Liability Waiver
We require a signed Liability Waiver for all dogs who use our services. This document identifies that there are inherent risks when bringing your dog to any facility, and you accept those risks. We will send you the Liability Waiver when you make your first reservation with us.

FAQs

What vaccinations does my dog need in order to board here?

Adult dogs need rabies, distemper, parvo, bordatella, and canine influenza. Puppies need all three rounds of these, but do not need Rabies if under four months old.

What if my dog is not used to being in a crate?

Unless otherwise specified, dogs who board with us are in group play throughout the day, so they are very happy. They are only in their boarding suite for minor breaks and to sleep at night, and by the time that happens, they are very tired. Our boarding suites are also very large and professional, and much bigger than a typical crate. If we notice that your dog is stuggling to be in a boarding suite, we will notify you. The vast majority of dogs come home very tired and happy. We believe that all dogs should learn to happily be in a crate, since this will likely be the case for boarding, daycare, grooming, and going to the vet. We have a training program to help you with crate training if necessary.

What if my dog is not very social with other dogs?

If your dog is trying to go after other dogs in play, that would not be allowed, and would need to be converted to a 'Solo Play' where our staff would interact with him one-on-one four times per day. We would contact you if this was the case. This costs $15 extra per night, and we cannot book a solo play reservation in advance. If your dog cannot be in group play, we recommend finding a pet-sitter and recommend several to you. Please also keep in mind that we separate the dogs by size, so small dogs are not playing with large dogs.

What is the minimum age requirement for puppies to board here?

We do not have a minimum age per se, but we do require that all three rounds of vaccinations be completed for the core vaccinations mentioned above (not including Rabies if under four months of age). Puppies will automatically get lots of extra break time, as being in play will cause them to become tired pretty quickly.

Do the dogs go outside if it is really hot, cold, or rainy?

If our management team decides that it is too hot, cold, or rainy, we would have extremely limited time outside, for the safety and well-being of the dogs. They may go outside in order to go potty, but will normally come back inside shortly thereafter.

My dog has a health issue. Are you able to administer medicine?

We are able to administer medicine at no cost, and have a sophisticated tracking system to ensure that it happens on schedule and according to your instructions. We do not administer injectables, as there is high liability in this instance, and fewer staff qualified to do it.

My dog has a special need. Are you able to still take him?

We routinely care for dogs with special needs, within reason. Just ask our receptionist when booking your reservation to make sure we can handle it.

What would happen if my dog became sick or injured while in your care?

Our top priority is the health and well-being of your dog. It is not common that a dog would become sick or injured here, but the risk does exist any time dogs are playing together. We believe the benefits of group play and our environment outweigh these risks. If something were to happen, we would attempt to contact you immediately, and depending on the situation, would try to go to either your vet if close enough, or one of our partner vets nearby. Our Health Warranty program covers up to a certain amount of veterinary care.

Free Trial Daycare Day

Free Trial Day for Dogs Boarding in Chicago
Help Your Dog Get Acclimated Before Your First Boarding Stay

We require a free trial day of daycare in order to help your dog(s) get used to our environment before your trip, and to make sure he will likely be comfortable in group play. This is a great way to ensure that he is happy when you leave for your trip, and is a tremendous benefit for the health and well-being of your dog.

We require a free trial day of daycare in order to help your dog(s) get acclimated to our environment before your trip, and to make sure he will likely be comfortable in group play. Guidelines:
  • You must make a reservation for the free trial day, and availability for any certain day is not guaranteed until we check our capacity.
  • You must make a boarding reservation in order to be eligible for the free trial day. If the trial day doesn't work out well, you can cancel the boarding reservation.
  • If you want to try out daycare but don't have a boarding reservation, you would need to pay the normal daily daycare rate.
  • If you know your dog will likely be reactive in play, please notify us about that and please be aware that we may not be able to fulfill your boarding request. Our boarding is primarily geared towards social dogs.
  • If your wondering about whether your dog may not do well in group play, we recommend coming for the free trial day as soon as possible before your trip, so you have adequate time to make alternative arrangements in case it doesn't work out.
  • If you believe your dog will do well in play and just want to get him used to the environment, we recommend bringing your dog a little closer to your checkin date.
  • If the trial day doesn't go well and you want to give your dog another chance, you could try it one more time. This assumes our staff believes your dog will likely be able to handle the environment and is not overly showing signs of aggression or stress.
  • We recommend arriving as early as possible on your free trial day, so your dog is one of the first ones in the playgroup as others arrive, instead of walking into a playgroup full of dogs.
  • You must show proof of vaccinations before you arrive for your trial day.
  • If your dog has already been here for daycare, the trial day is not applicable.

Cancellation Policy

Our boarding service is in high demand, and we turn other people away to hold reservations.

Therefore, we must enforce the following cancellation policy:

For same-day cancellations or no-shows, a $50 fee would be applied. If we do not receive payment in a timely manner, we would charge the most recent card that has been used. If you have paid a deposit and the refund deadline has passed, the deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Otherwise, if you must cancel a boarding reservation, we ask that you do so as soon as possible so we can give your space to someone else.

Concerns About Boarding?

Some people are nervous about boarding their dog when they travel, and instead keep their dog at home. They fear the worst.

Let us put your mind at ease. We believe you should give your dog a vacation when you travel, and the experience we offer is far better than having your dog sit on the couch all day.

If you don't believe us, we encourage you to watch some of these videos.

Boarding is not ideal for some dogs, and if this is the case for your dog, we will let you know. We want to make sure that every dog has the best experience possible.

Here are our responses to the most common fears we hear:

  • My dog doesn't do well in a crate / has never been in a crate / will be in a cage the whole time

Our boarding suites are much larger than dog crates. The dogs here are in play throughout the day, and when they go into their boarding suite, they are very tired and most of them don't mind at all, even if they don't go into a crate at home. They really just want to go to sleep at that point. If a dog seems too stressed to be in a boarding suite, our staff would tell you, but this is very rare. People are often surprised to find that their dog wasn't bothered by it and is happy to come back the next time.

  • My dog will get sick

It is rare that dog gets sick here from contagious conditions, as the dogs must be current on all vaccinations and we immediately remove dogs from play who show any signs of illness. Stress-related symptoms are the most common issues that a dog would face, but they are not common. Dogs who continue to board with us often lose their stress after a one or two visits. If a dog does catch a contagious illness, it is covered in our Health Warranty Program  for up to $250 in veterinary bills.

  • My dog will be too stressed

Some dogs are stressed at first, but most of them get over it once they get used to the environment. They start playing and having a good time, and owners are constantly surprised that their dog doesn't want to leave when they check out. If a dog continues to seem overly stressed, our staff would call you. We consistently hear from customers that their dog has come out of its shell and is more at ease in general once they have started boarding here.

  • My dog will get injured

Injuries here are very rare. We do not allow aggressive dogs in play, and our staff monitor them throughout the day. If an injury occurs, it is typically something like minor scratches due to play. Any injury that requires veterinary care is covered for up to $250 with our Health Warranty Program.

  • I'm not sure how my dog will be with other dogs

If your dog cannot interact positively with other dogs, this would require a 'Solo Play' reservation. Please note that we are not accepting new solo play reservations at this time. If your dog has a group play reservation and something happens causing him to not be in play anymore, that may be OK for that stay. We would call you to discuss. In this instance, our staff take them out four times per day, where they play and run, and still come home very happy and healthy. Having said that, we typically find that a dog may be protective around its owner but is fine in group play, especially once it has had time to adjust to the environment.

  • My dog wants to be with people

Not every dog likes to be playing with others. That is no problem. They can still benefit greatly from watching from the sidelines, and our staff are very good at interacting with each dog. Your dog will get plenty of people attention. If they have separation anxiety, most of them get over that very quickly, and boarding actually helps them be less anxious after they check out.

  • My dog will get dirty

We keep our facility clean, but dogs can get a little dirty because they are playing with other dogs, rolling on the floor, and splashing in the pools. We offer exit baths and believe that the experience your dog will gain is worth the cost of the bath. Plus, your dog will smell cleaner and feel softer than you can imagine, so many people love getting the bath even if their dog wasn't dirty. Having said all of that, many dogs don't get an exit bath, and we don't find that they are going home "dirty."

  • My dog's hair will get matted

Some dogs have finer hair than others, that can get matted when wet. We offer daily brushout to keep your dog's hair from becoming too matted, and again, we think you'll find that the experience is worth the loads of fun they will have in the pools.

  • My dog just wants to sleep all day

Dogs love the action that we provide, and we think they would choose romping around for their vacation. On the other hand, we understand that some are more comfortable sleeping, and that is no problem. Your dog can watch from the sidelines, will be able to sleep at naptime each day, and you could request extra nap-time during the day. We also offer the solo play option, where your dog is taken out separately from the other dogs four times per day.

  • It costs too much money

We believe that you'll find that the experience you give your dog is worth every penny. This will become evident to you when you see how happy and tired your dog is when you get home.

  • Any other concerns not mentioned?

If you have any other concerns not mentioned here, please give us a call. There's nothing we haven't heard before, and we will help you decide if boarding is right for you and your dog.

Hours of Operation

Note: The following times apply on both weekdays and weekends, 365 days per year.

6:45 am
If your dog will be in play: 12:00 pm
This is so your dog has at least a half-day of daycare before going into his suite at night. It's much better for your dog and the other dogs.

This is not an absolute requirement and exceptions may be made - please notify us if this will be the case.

If your dog is coming for its free trial day, please arrive as early as possible, and no later than noon.

If your dog will not be in play: 4:00pm
This is so your dog can used to his environment before going to sleep at night.
Any time between 6:45 am and 7:00 pm.

Please note that if you arrive right at 6:45 am to check out, it may take a few extra minutes to get you on your way.
There is a $30 fee per dog if picking up after 12:00 pm (this is considered a half-day of care)

Boarding vs. Pet Sitting

Large pet-sitting businesses such as Wag love to scare people about the "dangers" of boarding, and spend many millions of dollars in advertising trying to use those scare tactics and promote a false narrative. They want you to believe that your dog will get sick in boarding, and will be sitting in a cage for a week.

The truth is that countless dogs come here for boarding, and consistently come home happy and healthy. They do not go home sick, and are only in their boarding suite for minor naps, for eating, and for sleeping at night. Otherwise, they are out and about with their friends. Their suites are spacious, and they can sleep on whatever bed you bring.

We are dog lovers, and therefore we obviously believe that pet-sitting can be a better option for certain dogs. We also know pet sitters who we like and respect, and even employ some pet sitters, so we are not at all saying that all pet sitters are bad or unworthy.

What we are saying is there are different experiences and formats. Our boarding service has certain advantages that should not be dismissed or overlooked just because of scare tactics. You must decide what is right for you, based on your situation and your dog, and we just want you to have all of the relevant information before making your decision.

  • Dogs have more fun in boarding

When dogs board at Tucker Pup's, they are in play for most of the day. They are playing in our outdoor area, where we have pools, playground equipment, sun, and shade. We separate them into groups based on their size and temperament, so they find friends based on dogs who may be similar in size and playstyle. In addition, our staff are constantly interacting with them. If they don't want to play, that's OK, too - many of them enjoy watching the others from the sideline. By the time they go to bed for the night, they have had a full day and are worn out. Many of them don't want to go home, and bound through the door the next time they come back.

By contrast, pet-sitting typically involves laying around for most of the day in a stranger's house, and that person may or may not be present. With large pet-sitting businesses, it can be a different person's house each time. Your dog might go for a walk, but that is not guaranteed, and that walk could be for a short period of time. In most cases, it is a very sedentary experience, with lots of sleep during the day and not a lot of play, fun, exercise, or mental stimulation.

  • Our staff are trained professionals

Our staff must have professional experience in working with dogs in order to be hired here. We recruit people from a diversity of backgrounds, such as those who have worked in veterinary offices, in dog rescues, at other boarding facilities, and as dog walkers and pet sitters. After they are hired, they go through extensive training across a wide range of topics, in order to help them better understand dog behavior, breeds, health issues, proper techniques for feeding and medicine, and more. They have the ability to identify problems, such as health issues, and quickly act on them. They also help each dog get the most from its experience here. We can effectively handle dogs who may not be interested in eating, who won't take their medicine, who seem stressed or anxious, who may get into an altercation, and so forth.

By contrast, a person who watches dogs at their house is far less likely to have this extensive knowledge base, which is very important to have when caring for dogs. This is especially true with large pet-sitting businesses where people sign up to watch dogs in order to make some extra money, but who have no professional dog experience.

  • We're available 365 days per year, for as long or little as you need

We are open from 6:45am to 7pm, 365 days per year. When you request a boarding reservation, it is very rare that you would be turned away. Our goal is to be your dog's home away from home, and you're never putting us out. We want your dog to have a consistent experience from one visit to the next, which helps them be happy and minimizes stress. In addition, your dog can stay here as long as you need - in fact, we routinely have some dogs stay here for multiple weeks in a row, which is not an issue for us at all.

By contrast, you could easily find that your pet sitter is not available, causing your dog to stay at different homes from trip to trip. You can also get into trying to coordinate schedules for pickup and dropoff, which can be challenging.

  • We require written proof of vaccinations

We require written proof of vaccinations, including for canine influenza, for every dog in our building. This helps minimize any chance of your dog getting sick.

By contrast, pet sitters are far less likely to require these vaccinations. They may be boarding other dogs in their homes at the same time, so there could be a risk of catching a contagious condition in that environment.

  • Safe environment

We have nothing available for dogs to "get into," such as trash cans, cleaners, household items, or countertops with food. There's nothing for them to chew or destroy, such as furniture, and they are never left alone. There are no back doors for them to accidentally run out.

This cannot always be said for someone's house, which is full of new and exciting ways to get into trouble! In addition, if you leave for a week, there is a low likelihood that your dog would never be left alone during that time.

  • Grooming

We can give your dog a bath, deshedding, or even a full haircut before it goes home. This would be delivered by our team of grooming professionals, who are second to none and have all of the proper equipment to do a great job. Our customers love the one-stop convenience that this provides, as their dog comes home feeling soft, looking great, and smelling fantastic.

Most pet sitters will not have this capability, besides hosing your dog off or putting it in the tub for a quick rinse.

  • You're dealing with a business who cares deeply about our reputation

We have been in business for over a decade and have built a strong reputation based on exceptional customer service. We are honest and forthright, and have nothing to hide. Our employees are properly trained, must follow proper procedures, and are held accountable for their actions.

When dealing with individuals, this is not always the case and can be very 'hit or miss.'

Extended Stays

If you need for your dog to stay for an extended period of time, we offer several features to help you and your dog be as happy as possible during the stay:

In-and-out privileges. We welcome you, a friend, or even a walker to come over and take your dog for any period of time that you like. This means your dog could go for daily walks, to the park, or even the dog beach. This can be very helpful if, for example, you are staying in town at a hotel on business travel.

Extra nap time. We don't want your dog to become overly tired and snappy, so we can give extra nap time, over and above the normal amount.

Solo play time. We can give your dog a customized play schedule, to help him get plenty of rest while still enjoying being with the other dogs. For example, you could do two days in play, then one day as a "solo play," where your dog is in his suite throughout the day but goes outside with a handler four times a day for personal play time.

Transportation Options

If you do need transportation, there are several options available that you should consider.
Please note that Tucker Pup's does not directly offer transportation of your dog to and from our facility.

  • Tails Up Pet Club. We have a partnership with Tails Up Pet Club. If you live nearby Tucker Pup's, Tails Up can walk your dog to our facility for checkin, and walk your dog home for checkout. Contact Tails Up for details.
  • Pet transportation company. These companies exist to shuttle your dog wherever you need it to go, in vehicles outfitted for safe pet transportation. Do a Google search to find some options.
  • Taxi. If you just stand on the corner with your dog, they will likely not stop for you. However, if you call for a taxi and say you need to bring your dog along for the ride, they will send one where the driver is fine with it, and possibly who drives a larger vehicle that could even fit a crate. You could leave your crate at Tucker Pup's during the stay if necessary. If you have a small dog, many will allow you to hold it in your lap.
  • Ridesharing (e.g., Uber, Lyft). These companies normally allow you to bring your dog, but you must contact your driver as soon as the ride is booked in order to see if they are fine with it, and whether their vehicle is large enough.
  • Dog walking / pet-sitting company. Some offer "pet taxi" as a service. If you have a dog walker who already has your keys, this might be a preferred option if the person needs to get in your home.
  • Friend / neighbor. You might consider having your friend or neighbor help you out. You can fill out the online checkin form on our website so your friend doesn't need to worry about instructions, you could drop off belongings beforehand if necessary, and we can put your card on file so your friend doesn't need to pay.

Helpful considerations:
  • We are right around the corner from the Morgan Street stop on the el. This is only two stops away from the Clark and Lake station, which connects to the Orange Line (taking you all the way to Midway Airport) or the Blue Line (taking you all the way to O'Hare Airport). Therefore, you could feasibly bring your dog to us in a taxi or other means, then walk around the corner to the Morgan Station and get to either airport for around $5. This can be ideal for short travel where you're not carrying a lot of luggage.
  • Online checkin option. With our Online Checkin option, you can fill out all the instructions beforehand, so if someone else is dropping off for you, they only need to worry about dropping off your dog and nothing else.
  • Card on file. We can keep your card on file, so your friend or another party doesn't need to pay on your behalf.
  • Drop off belongings beforehand. If you need to drop off items before your stay (e.g., food, medicine, toy), that is no problem.
