Return to Advanced Manners
These are standard vaccinations that any veterinarian should be able to administer. They are for the health and safety of all the dogs in the class.
For our Manners classes, your dog cannot be reactive towards other dogs (e.g., snarling, lunging, trying to bite, barking in an aggressive manner). If you fear this may be the case for your dog, we recommend private lessons, or our Leash Reactivity class.
To participate in group play during any Manners class, your dog must not be aggressive towards the others, including playing overly rough, barking aggressively, excessively humping, and so forth. Again, you could wait in the hallway during playtime if this were a concern.
Vaccinations
All dogs in our training courses must have proof of current vaccinations from a licensed veterinarian, in the following categories:- Bordatella (aka "canine cough"): This is typically given as two rounds initially, then one round annually thereafter. Puppies need at least the first round in order to participate in class, and the second must be kept current when due. Adult dogs need to be fully current.
- Canine influenza (aka "CIV" or "canine flu"): your dog must have gotten at least the first round in order to begin classes - the second is normally given within three weeks of the first. If you don't get the second round, you must start over. Please note that we need the "H3N2" or "bivalent" strain, not just the "H3N8" strain. Your vet should understand this requirement.
- Rabies: If 7 months or older.
- Distemper and Parvo (aka "DHLPP" or similar): Puppies receive three rounds initially - we need at least two of the rounds to be completed, and the third to be kept current when it is due. Adult dogs need to be fully current.

Guidelines:
- When enrolling in a class, we will send you an e-mail request - you can simply reply to it with a PDF attachment, or have the document faxed to the number in the e-mail.
- We must have a document with due dates, not just the dates they were given. The due dates must be clearly printed - we cannot accept stickers or illegible hand-writing.
- If a vaccination will expire while the course is in session, it must be kept updated for the next class
- Our Puppy, Adult Manners, and Leash Reactivity courses have an orientation for the first class, with no dogs present. Therefore, you have until Class 2 to update any vaccinations as necessary.
- We need the document(s) to be sent in advance of your puppy arriving. Please don't just bring them to the class and hand them to the trainer.
- We just need a one-page summary, not a full medical history. The due dates are normally given as a 'Certificate of Health' or even on a receipt for many vets.
- We accept proof titers as a substitute for vaccinations for adult dogs - ask your vet for details
Medical / Contagious Condition
We cannot have any dog in class who has a medical or other condition that is contagious or that could negatively affect the other dogs in class. Examples include:- Coughing or sneezing
- Giardia
- Diarrhea
- Fleas
- Worms
